We are excited to be able to offer Semaglutide weight loss medication to our Chill Cryotherapy clients!

Obesity is a significant public health concern that affects millions of people worldwide. Being overweight or obese is associated with many health complications, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers. While diet and exercise are the cornerstone of weight management, they may not work for everyone. In these circumstances, weight loss medication can really help! Semaglutide is a medication that has recently been approved for weight loss.. Let’s explore what semaglutide is, how it works, and its effectiveness in weight loss.

What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide belongs to a class of drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. GLP-1 is a hormone produced in the gut that helps regulate blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin secretion and reducing glucagon secretion. GLP-1 receptor agonists like semaglutide work by mimicking the effects of GLP-1, leading to improved blood sugar control and reduced appetite.

How Does Semaglutide Work?

Semaglutide works by activating GLP-1 receptors in the brain, leading to reduced appetite and feeling more full faster. It also slows the emptying of the stomach which also helps you feel full and satisfied with less food. Semaglutide also works by reducing glucose release from the liver, leading to improved blood sugar control!

How is Semaglutide dosed?

It is available in a once-weekly injection, and the dose is gradually increased over a period of several months to minimize side effects. We offer semaglutide injections in our locations OR we can ship directly to you!

Effectiveness of Semaglutide in Weight Loss

Several clinical trials have evaluated the effectiveness of semaglutide in weight loss. The STEP (Semaglutide Treatment Effect in People with Obesity) program involved several clinical trials that assessed the efficacy of semaglutide in weight loss.

The STEP 1 trial included 1,961 obese adults with at least one weight-related condition, such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes. The participants received either semaglutide or a placebo injection once weekly for 68 weeks. Results show that participants on  semaglutide lost an average of 15.3% of their body weight, compared to 2.4% of participants on the placebo.

The STEP 2 trial involved 1,210 adults with type 2 diabetes and obesity. Participants received either semaglutide or a placebo injection once weekly for 68 weeks. Results show that participants who received semaglutide lost an average of 9.6% of their body weight, compared to 3.4% on the placebo.

The STEP 3 trial involved 611 overweight or obese adults with a history of cardiovascular disease. Participants received either semaglutide or a placebo injection once weekly for 68 weeks. Participants who received semaglutide lost an average of 7.9% of their body weight, compared to 2.3% for those who received the placebo.
